CD Duplication - F.A.Q

What is the difference between CD duplication and CD replication?
The difference is in the manfacturing process, CD replication uses the original master disc to create a glass master which in turn allows for a stamper to be made. This stamper is then used to create an exact replica of the master copy. CD Duplication on the other hand, refers to burning data onto a disk using a laser, as is done in home computing.

Is the quality level of a duplicated CD lower than a replicated CD?
No, CD duplication and CD replication have the ability to store the same information without any loss of quality or data.

What is the turnaround for CD duplication?
CD duplication orders usually take 1 - 3 days to complete. Please call us to discuss on 01274 656565.

What ais the minimum order for CD duplication?
The minimum order for our CD duplication service is 50.

What are my CD print options?
Inkjet - Inkjet printing sprays extremely small droplets of ink from jets onto the surface of an inkjet printable CD. After the printing process the CDs are protected with a coating of a gloss UV varnish making the CDs less vulnerable to smudging and scratches.
Inkjet printing is ideal for any artwork and as it has the advantage of low set up costs and a low minimum volume run.

Digital - Digital printing uses a digital imaging process that transfers the image directly onto the disc without the need for traditional offset rollers and plates.

Digital printing is ideal for very quick short runs or for personalised print and has the advantage of low set up costs and a low minimum volume run.

Litho - Litho printing uses a technique where the inked image is placed on a printing plate (usually zinc/aluminium) in a series of dots, made from Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black (CMYK). this is then imprinted on a rubber cylinder and then transferred (offset) to the disc.

Litho printing is an ideal method of print for images with gradients of colour. The image must be supplied as 'pixel' artwork made from CMYK separations.

Screen - Screen printing uses a technique where ink is pushed through a nylon or polyester screen. The result is a perfect crisp edge.

Screen printing is an ideal method of print for block colour artwork. The logo must be supplied as 'vector' artwork and coloured in Pantone Solid Coated colours.

Do you provide artwork proofs?
We supply a PDF proof free of charge, which accurately show the layout but are not colour accurate. A colour accurate proof may be purchased at an extra cost. We can also supply a physical pre-production printed disc at an extra cost.

Do you provide artwork templates?
We can offer a full selection of PDF design templates.

Do you offer a design service?
Yes we have an in-house design team who will work closely with you to get the design just right.

Why should I use your service when I already have a CD writer drive in my PC?
Our CD duplication service can take the strain away from your CD writer. We have specialised CD print and lacquer duplication machinery in-house which are specially designed to produce copies quickly, accurately and with a professional look.

HDC Media offer a CD printing service without the duplication or replication process. This means we can supply print only CDs from 50+, which you can copy data on as and when required. We only use high quality CDs and print directly onto the CD using the latest CD printing machines.

The JakeBox is an eco friendly packaging product. Its most significant characteristic is the folded "claw" that holds the disc, and in an eye-catching way unfolds itself, presenting the disc, lifting it up and making it easily accessible.

CD JakeBox Sleeves and Inserts
Standard JakeBox is either CD/DVD size. The standard Jakebox is printed with either a flat closed front panel, or a pocket to house a booklet. If you’re on a budget or need a quick turnaround you can order pre-printed Jakebox’s in black or white with an open window front panel. These can be branded to your requirements by inserting a card panel/booklet, which will be visible on the front.

Mailers can be sent in the post with no need for additional packaging. The CD Mailer is designed to minimise postage costs, as it’s dimensions fall under ‘Letter’, In line with Royal Mail’s ‘Pricing in Proportion’ – a cost to send of only 36p each. The CD Mailer can be printed with pre-paid postage as either a PPI (Printed Postage Impression), or franking stamp (for short runs). The pack is sealed with a self seal tear strip. Simply apply an address labels and off they go!

Our standard mailer pack can hold a variety of products, e.g. 2x discs and a business card, 1x disc and an A4 letter and a business card, 1x disc and a booklet/brochure and a business card - the options are endless.

The half size case holds one disc and has a clear outer wrap which holds a printed sleeve. Inside the case there are plastic clips which hold a booklet, with the disc being held in place by a push button hub.

The DVD cases are available in a variety of colours such as black, white, red, green and blue and more. What sizes of vinyl records are available?
There are 3 vinyl record sizes available.

All our vinyl records come in black unless otherwise stated.

What is coloured vinyl?
Other than the standard black we can also make your vinyl record out of coloured vinyl. The colours available are:

How should I supply my master?
You need to supply us with a master in an audio CD format on a CD-R. If you could ensure the tracks are neatly grouped in the right sequence and side A and B are kept separate to avoid any mistakes.

What file formats do you require?
Our preferred files for audio are WAV or AIFF. We can also accept
APE (Monkeys Audio) - loseless compressed audio, with error detection
FLAC (Free Losseless Audio Codec) - Loseless compressed audio with error detection
